Midweek FAST Action Update: FAST Teams Prepare for Travel on August 20, Reed and Miller Score Victories on July 29
By FAST Press
FREMONT, Ohio (August 4, 2016) - With less than ten combined dates remaining on the 2016 schedule for the Kistler Racing Products FAST 410 Series presented by K S Sales & Service and the JLH General Contractors FAST 305 Series presented by Engine Pro, teams will now begin to feel a sense of urgency, attempting to rack up as many points as possible in hopes of claiming a 2016 FAST championship worth $10,000 and $2,000, respectively. Despite an upcoming two-weekend break in the schedule, allowing teams the opportunity to travel to Knoxville, Iowa, for the Knoxville Nationals, full-time FAST Series teams will not have much time to relax as a full weekend of competition awaits on August 19-20 including travel events for both the FAST 410 Series and FAST 305 Series.
“We are approaching crunch time for a lot of teams,” FAST Series promoter Rich Farmer said. “We don’t have a lot of racing left. The point championships are still close and anything can happen. Point leaders will begin to feel a little pressure from those in second and third. This is an exciting time of the year, for sure. Things may get interesting. Nobody can afford to make a mistakes this late in the year. I think we are going to see some exciting racing the next few weeks.”
Kistler Racing Products FAST 410 Series presented by K S Sales & Service competition will continue on Friday and Saturday, August 19-20, with events at Attica Raceway Park and Atomic Speedway. Attica Raceway Park is a routine destination for FAST 410 Series competition with defending series champion and current point leader Byron Reed earning the most recent victory on Friday, July 29. Broc Martin finished just behind Reed, followed by Jody Keegan from row six, Travis Philo, and Caleb Griffith. Reed leads all FAST Series competitors with four victories on the season.
The FAST 410 Series visit to Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, Ohio, on Saturday, August 20, the first in 2016 and the first in series history, will feature round two of the FAST/Ohio Sprint Car Series North-South Challenge awarding $3,000.
JLH General Contractors FAST 305 Series presented by Engine Pro competition will continue on Friday and Saturday, August 19-20, with visits to Attica Raceway Park and the Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, Pennsylvania. The Mercer Raceway Park visit on Saturday, August 20, will be a first ever for the FAST 305 Series, as well as a first ever start in the state of Pennsylvania.
Just like the FAST 410 Series, FAST 305 Series competitors also made a recent visit to Attica Raceway Park on July 29 with Jamie Miller picking up his first victory of the 2016 season. Former FAST champion Nate Dussel finished just behind Miller, followed by Dan McCarron, Paul Weaver, and Seth Schneider.
Byron Reed will enter the August 19-20 doubleheader as the current FAST 410 Series championship point leader, holding a 48-point advantage in the standings over Craig Mintz. Mintz, a two-time FAST main event winner in 2016 and former series champion, sits ahead of Brian Lay by over 100 points in the championship hunt, followed by Stuart Brubaker and Broc Martin. Paul Weaver holds down the top spot in the current FAST 305 Series title chase by 42 points over Nate Dussel; Steve Rando, Dan McCarron, and Alvin Roepke round out the top-five.
"I hope for successful and safe travels during our upcoming travel dates," Farmer said. "I'm excited for the exposure that our racers will receive. They deserve it."
