Mid Week FAST Action Update: Andrews and Clark Earn Wins, Action Set to Resume with Mega Memorial Day Weekend Program, FAST Points Updated
FAST Series Press:
FREMONT, Oh. (May 17, 2016) - Despite Mother Nature’s attempt to wreak havoc on the entire FAST Series weekend in northwest Ohio, competition continued, this time with a visit to Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio. It was the first FAST Series program of the 2016 season in Attica, with previously scheduled stops all halted due to Mother Nature.
The Kistler Racing Products FAST 410 Series presented by K S Sales & Service, and the JLH General Contractors FAST 305 Series presented by Engine Pro, sanctioned competition at Attica Raceway Park on Friday evening, May 13, crowning two new FAST Series main event winners, as well as two new championship point leaders.
“Weather continues to give us a headache, but it didn’t stop action from happening at Attica,” said Rich Farmer, FAST Series promoter. “Hats off to all of the teams that entered action on Friday night. We had overwhelming support once again. The racing proved that we have some of the best talent in the region. The rest of the season is going to be fantastic.”
Chris Andrews earned his first FAST 410 Series main event victory of the 2016 season on Friday evening at the Attica highbanks. The Sandusky native earned his spot in victory lane with a pass for the lead during the closing laps of the 30-lap main event. Craig Mintz would be scored second, followed by DJ Foos, Jordan Ryan, and Broc Martin. Caleb Griffith, who led all but the last two circuits before losing command to Andrews, crossed under the final checkers in the runner-up spot, but was disqualified due to a weight infraction. There were 24 cars entered for competition.
With help from his runner-up finish, Craig Mintz is now the Kistler Racing Products FAST 410 Series presented by K S Sales & Service point leader. The former FAST Series champion holds a mere 19 point advantage over defending champion Byron Reed. Broc Martin, Chris Andrews, and Trey Jacobs round out the top-five. Chris Andrews joins Byron Reed and Carson Macedo as one-time winners with the series thus far in 2016.
It was Fremont’s Bobby Clark earning high honors during the FAST 305 Series main event on Friday night at Attica Raceway Park. The former champion held back Steve Rando, Nate Dussel, Dustin Dinan, and Paul Weaver at the final checkers. There were 37 cars signed in for 305 sprint car competition.
Despite the victory, Clark finds himself second in the current JLH General Contractors FAST 305 Series presented by Engine Pro standings, just three points shy of the top spot. Fellow former series champion Nate Dussel stands on top of the championship points, followed by Clark, Dustin Dinan, Seth Schneider, and Dustin Stroup.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature washed away all hopes for FAST Series competition at Fremont Speedway on Saturday, May 14. Wet weather and unseasonably cold temperatures forced the “Track That Action Built” to close their doors.
Up next on the agenda, FAST 410 Series and FAST 305 Series competitors will prepare for a mega event in Fremont, Ohio, during Memorial Day weekend; two days of open wheel competition with high dollar paydays on the line. Action will ignite officially on Saturday evening, May 28, at Fremont Speedway with a $5,000-to-win/$500-to-start FAST 410 Series program, the highest paying main event of the season thus far. As an added bonus, all competitors who take a competitive green flag will be awarded at least $300.
The FAST 305 Series competitors will get their share of Memorial Day weekend action at the “Track That Action Built” on Sunday, May 29. A $1,000-to-win main event will headline racing for the 305 sprinters on Sunday evening, joining the BOSS non-wing sprint cars for a true open wheel experience.
“Our Memorial Day weekend special has the potential to be a mega event for Fremont Speedway,” explained Rich Farmer. “We have a lot in store for the fans and racers. We’ll be sure to have a packed pit area with the most talented racers in the area. I’m excited to see how the weekend unfolds.”
